Key behaviors

• Unicode diacritics folded — Turkish chars, accents handled cleanly
• Strips special chars — $, %, !, etc. removed, numbers preserved
• Custom separator — separator: "_" yields my_blog_post_title
• Whitespace collapsed — leading/trailing/multiple spaces normalized
• Idempotent — already-a-slug returns already-a-slug
• First call ~67ms, subsequent calls 5-20ms

Gotchas

• Does NOT transliterate CJK — Japanese/Chinese chars are stripped, not romanized. Only Latin-script Unicode (diacritics, Turkish, German, etc.) survives.
• max_length caps at the last separator boundary, not mid-word
• Default separator is - (hyphen); for filenames use _
